BREA OLINDA (1-0) VS. WOODBRIDGE (0-1) Where, when: Irvine High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: We heard murmurs during the summer that Brea Olinda had its best team in several years. Well, the Wildcats made those predictions
appear accurate last week. They hammered Valencia, 45-13, and this week popped into our top 25, at No. 24, probably for the first time since we started a county football top 25 a few years ago. Valencia does have a history of being a slow starter, but that remains an impressive margin. Josh Vizcaya rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns for Brea. Woodbridge lost to Aliso Niguel, 20-13, last week.
Aliso Niguel is in a higher division than Woodbridge, and is just a couple of years removed from South Coast League membership, so losing by a touchdown to Aliso is not a disaster for Woodbridge. If Brea wins this one, that will further raise the Wildcats’ profile.
